Practical Occlusion in the Digital World

Prof. Michael Radu, DDS, MS

Abstract
Occlusion is considered a controversial and least understood aspect of dentistry. In
reality, when we apply simple logic and approach it from a practical perspective,
occlusion becomes a connection between clinical and laboratory work. Occlusion is also a common denominator for all dental specialties.
Michael Radu has created a formula for occlusion that becomes the bridge between the
theory and practical application. He is the author of Practical Applications in Dental
Occlusion and will discuss the occlusion formula and its application in occlusal
registrations, equilibration and recording the envelope of function. Digital workflows are
a major advancement that facilitate all aspects of occlusion. Michael Radu has
transformed the theory of occlusion in practical, reproducible, clear protocols for
success in the daily practice.
The key elements are:

  • Theory to practice, using the occlusion formula in all clinical situations –diagnosis,
treatment planning, interdisciplinary treatment, refinement of treatment results.
  • Use of protocols to improve outcomes in all clinical cases

Learning Objectives

  1. Realize that occlusion is more than intercuspation
  2. Understand how the Occlusion Formula helps us treatment plan and treat any case
  3. Understand why and how digital occlusal records are the new norm
