Green Intelligence: How Artificial Intelligence Can Drive Sustainable Dentistry
Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming dentistry beyond improving diagnostics and clinical efficiency, it is becoming a powerful catalyst for sustainability. As healthcare systems seek to reduce their environmental impact while maintaining high-quality, patient-centered care, AI offers innovative solutions that support greener clinical workflows without compromising outcomes.
This presentation explores how AI can optimize treatment planning, reduce unnecessary interventions, minimize material waste, improve laboratory communication, enhance digital workflows, and promote preventive, minimally invasive care. Through applications in digital dentistry, predictive analytics, computer-aided diagnosis, and workflow automation, AI enables clinicians to make evidence-based decisions that conserve resources, reduce remakes, decrease chairside time, and lower the carbon footprint of dental practices.
The presentation will also discuss the ethical considerations, implementation challenges, and future opportunities of integrating AI into sustainable dental education and clinical practice. Biography
Dr. Minaal Verma is Chair of the Department of Prosthodontics & Endodontics and a Tenured Associate Professor at the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine, Illinois, USA. An internationally recognized Prosthodontist, Educator, and Researcher, her work focuses on the intersection of artificial intelligence, digital dentistry, implant prosthodontics, and sustainable oral healthcare.
She has published extensively in digital workflows and implant rehabilitation, contributed to leading prosthodontic textbooks, and is an inventor on AI-enabled dental technologies. Through her research, leadership, and global lectures, Dr. Verma advocates for integrating emerging technologies with biologically driven, minimally invasive, and environmentally responsible dental care to shape the future of patient-centered dentistry.
