Advanced Diagnostic Methods for the Temporomandibular Joint

Abstract

Diagnosis and treatment strategies today are based on a large volume of data, constituted in a computerized system and processed by rigorous statistical-mathematical methods. In their turn, the new generations of biomaterials have allowed to increase the quality of the orthodontic medical act. In the face of such developments, the doctor’s task becomes even more complex.

Their level of knowledge, information and competence must reach those levels, which will enable them to select and apply advanced treatment methods and techniques. Teamwork also becomes indispensable, as the doctor has to deal with such an approach. The evolution of knowledge in medical disciplines such as medical genetics, biophysics, biochemistry, physiology and in the field of biomaterials technology, new acquisitions in medical imaging and radiology, have led to the introduction of new methods and means of diagnosis and treatment in human pathology.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify advanced diagnostic methods used in the assessment of the temporomandibular joint, with particular emphasis on modern medical imaging and radiological techniques.
  • Integrate clinical findings with imaging, biomedical, and interdisciplinary data to support accurate diagnosis and individualized treatment planning for temporomandibular joint disorders.
  • Evaluate the role of emerging diagnostic technologies and interdisciplinary collaboration in improving clinical decision-making and the management of temporomandibular joint pathology.
