The concept of function driven orthodontics: fixed orthodontic treatment for severe dento-skeletal malocclusions from a functional perspective
Abstract
The main focus of most orthodontic and gnathological treatments is directed at the teeth and their relationships.
Unfortunately, function is often not one of the primary objectives.
Starting with an examination of oral functions, we will analyze not only the local effects but also the systemic, postural, and neurological impacts.
From a global functional diagnosis, we will progress to the ontogenetic development of malocclusions and their subsequent therapy.
We will discuss gnathological and orthognathodontic therapy using Professor Sato’s multiloop technique, revisited and simplified with the use of a new, high-performance wire, the GUMMETAL.
We will explore how this technique helps to conservatively treat severe
Dento-skeletal malocclusions without premolar extractions or surgical intervention. The rehabilitative concepts explained here have full application not only in adult orthodontic therapy but can also be applied to interceptive therapy and prosthetic rehabilitation.
This approach provides a comprehensive system for evaluating the entire cervico-cranio-mandibular complex.

Biography
A qualified dental surgeon and dental technician, he completed his degree in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics at the University of Trieste’s Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in 1997, achieving the highest possible distinction (110/110). His advanced training includes a Master’s in Prosthetics from the Vienna University of Medicine and a Master’s in the management of obstructive sleep apnea patients from the University of Padua.
At Donau University in Vienna, he qualified as an Academic Expert in the Function and Dysfunction of the Masticatory Organ under Prof. R. Slavicek, and in Craniofacial Orthodontics under Prof. S. Sato. His expertise is further complemented by specialized training in clinical posturology, kinesiology, and osteopathy at Eurocclusion Italia.
