The Era of Digital Neuromuscular Diagnosis: A Data Driven Approach to Functional Assessment and Rehabilitation
Abstract
The evolution of Technologies has significantly transformed diagnostic and Therapeutic protocols in modern dentistry, promoting a transition from subjective clinical observations to objective, evidence-based decision-making. Within this context, digital neuromuscular diagnostics has emerged as a powerful tool for evaluating the complex interactions among the masticatory muscles, temporo-mandibular joints (TMJs), mandibular function, and dental occlusion. Instrumentation provides clinicians with quantifiable data that enhance diagnostic accuracy and facilitate individualized treatment planning in orthodontic, prosthetic, and multidisciplinary rehabilitation.
This presentation explores the scientific rationale and clinical applications of advanced neuromuscular technologies, including Ultra-Low Frequency Transcutaneous Electrical Neural Stimulation (ULF-TENS), surface electromyography (EMGs), electrosonography (ESG), and computerized mandibular kinesiography through the K7 Evaluation System. These technologies allow the objective assessment of muscle activity, joint sounds, mandibular movements, and physiological rest position, generating
reproducible information that complements conventional clinical examinations and imaging studies.
Special emphasis is placed on the integration of digital NM records with contemporary digital workflows and treatment-planning platforms such as the Nemotec Suite and Exocad.
By combining functional data with three-dimensional imaging and digital design tools, clinicians can develop more predictable treatment strategies for patients affected by temporomandibular disorders ( TMDs), occlusal dysfunctions, and cranio-cervico-mandibular syndromes.
The conference also highlights current scientific evidence supporting the use of NM diagnostics and provides practical training in data acquisition, interpretation, and clinical implementation. Ultimately, this Data Driven approach enhances diagnostic precision, improves interdisciplinary communication, and supports more effective, patient-centered rehabilitation outcomes in contemporary.

Biography
Carlos Capmourteres, DDS, MICCMO, is President of the South American Section of the International College of Cranio-Mandibular-Orthopedics (ICCMO) and former International President of the same organization. At the Interamerican Open University (UAI), he served as Academic Secretary of the Dentistry Program and Head Professor of the Temporomandibular Disorders Course.
He directs the University Diploma Program in TMJ Pathology, Cranio-cervico-mandibular Dysfunction and Orofacial Pain, offered by UAI together with ICCMO at postgraduate level. He is an international lecturer in craniomandibular dysfunction and orofacial pain from a neuromuscular perspective, as well as an expert in neuromuscular implant-prosthetic rehabilitation.
